Most of the people do care about macronutrients in food as it has visible results in physique like weight lose, weight gain etc. But, it is equally important that consumption of enough micronutrients from our diet.

Why micronutrients

Micronutrients are essential for efficient functioning of our body like cell production, hair management, immune system, digestive system, hormone control etc. I’m just explaining few micronutrients and its functions over body:

  • Zinc: Essential for normal growth and healthy immune system, regulating thyroid. Food sources: Cashew, legume, pumpkin seeds etc.
  • Magnesium: It is used for electrolytes balancing inside our body. These electrolytes can be found in lots of systems in body, digestive system is one example. So, magnesium is required for keeping digestive system healthy. Food sources: whole grains, dark green leafy vegetables, soya beans etc.
  • Calcium: Primary use of this substance is to maintain bone, teeth strength. Food sources: Milk, tofu, yogurt etc.
  • Vitamins: vitamins are overall regulators of body functions. For example, Vitamin A supports skin and eye health. Vitamin B12 supports red blood cells formation. There are two types of vitamins are there; fat soluble vitamins and water soluble vitamins and both has differences in their digestive patterns and functioning.

There are many micronutrients that is required in human body for its efficient working. So make sure that you are consuming enough micronutrients either via food or via supplements. As I mentioned in good diet blog, use some applications to keep track of micro and macronutrients.

Even though micronutrients are required for our body for proper functioning, we don’t require it in large quantities like macronutrients.
